Experts at a conference by the Uttarakhand Council for Science and Technology and EcoGroup Society highlighted key waste management challenges and solutions to improve Dehradun’s Swachh Survekshan 2024 ranking. They emphasized the need for better source segregation, stricter enforcement of the single-use plastic ban, and more collection centers for plastic, e-waste, and medical waste. Public awareness campaigns and stricter government action against violators were also recommended. Converting wet waste into organic fertilizers was suggested to reduce waste. Dehradun Smart City and DMC are collaborating on legacy waste management and waste transfer station reforms. Dehradun’s ranking improved from 69th in 2022 to 68th in 2023.
